January 2012
Dear Friends of onemoon,
Each year offers new opportunities and insights. 2011, the most transitional year in onemoon’s history, has presented the most. I have been abroad all except three months and have encountered new friends and venues for exhibitions in the States and in Europe.
An all- onemoon work on paper exhibition entitled “Nature Unbound” will open in mid September at Cornish Academy of Art, a prestigious, private performing and fine art academy in Seattle. In addition, Chen Zhao has been invited to be a resident artist at the academy in September 2012.
Opportunities in Chicago are developing. Qiao Xiaoguang is very close to being formally commissioned to create a 90 foot cut stainless steel sculpture for the United Airlines concourse in Terminal 1 of O’Hare Airport. His Urban Papercut series is being exhibited in the Asian Section of the beautiful University of Indiana (Bloomington) Museum of Fine Arts, designed by I.M Pei.
In Brussels, I visited Annalisa Giannella, a recently retired delegate from the European Union, and a woman with remarkable intellect and energy. She is actively seeking opportunities to exhibit two onemoon exhibitions in Europe. In addition, she is visiting several fine art fairs in Europe in order to pave the way to participation in the most appropriate one for onemoon during 2013.
We are preparing two exhibitions in Beijing during the coming year. First is the solo exhibition of Jiang Chao during April and May. It will be held at yun gallery in 798. Beginning with his 24 piece untitled landscape silkscreen, his 12 piece “Story” silkscreen, his famous 15 piece hand-painted Blue Fences, and his latest Du Jian Library, a collection of 756 different books, hand bound, placed between nan mu jia ban (holder boards made of laurel wood) with hand woven ties, it will reveal his incredible imagination, knowledge, intellectual integrity, skill, maturity and love of Chinese art and history.
Second, will be the fourth semi-annual group abstract exhibition which will open in late October. The topic of this exhibition is Change: Abstract Chinese Paintings Since 2005. It will feature work of some artists who have previously participated in onemoon abstract exhibitions, and new artists, including Gao Ping, Tian Wei, Hilda Shen, Wei Jia.
I am yearning for the opportunity to create exhibitions, introduce new artists, meet new people, and to enjoy being a gallerist again. I have missed the day to day activities of running a gallery. For that reason, I am actively seeking affordable, stable, and appropriate space to house onemoon once again. As soon as that task has been accomplished, we will release information, and you will be invited to our first exhibition, or to come on your own for a more quiet, personal visit.
